Eastern Kentucky, United States
Since 1998, Mission Journeys has been working in Eastern Kentucky to help revive rural congregations, improve church facilities/homes, and bring the gospel to the people of the Appalachian Mountains. This area of Kentucky contains some of the poorer areas of Appalachia, with many low-income families and high unemployment.
Over the past 25 years plus, mission teams and work groups have been active in ministry projects in the KY counties of Clay, Estill, Jackson, Laurel, Lee, Magoffin, Rockcastle, Whitley, and Wolfe, as well as in the neighboring Appalachian areas of West Virginia and Jellico, TN.
Mission Journey teams have also helped with several building and work projects at Faith Christian Assembly, a Christian service camp located about 10 miles outside London, KY, near Annville, KY, and Kentucky Christian Assembly (Brodhead, KY). Both camps serve the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ in the Cumberland Valley and southeastern KY area.
We’ve also helped with construction projects at a Christian camp near Mt Vernon, KY. This 900-acre camp provides children with disabilities the opportunity to swim, fish, go horseback riding, and even hunt (with adult supervision).
Starting in 2003, we began helping the church plant projects in Beattyville, KY, and Campton, KY.
