Barnabas Project

Director: Dan Underwood

The first “full-time” mission initiative of Mission Journeys was launched in June 2010, when Dan & Maria "Toni" Underwood arrived in the Central American country of Belize, heading up a new ministry initiative called the Barnabas Project.
It was not the conventional way to the mission field as Dan & Toni drove an RV (purchased in April 2010) through Mexico to Belize.
They used the RV as their home and base of operations for nearly three years.
Since 2010, the Underwoods have lived in Belize year-round, helping nationals in ministry and working with a few existing churches they have been in contact with since 2009. They began serving as hosts for our short-term mission teams in 2011.
Through this partnership, the Underwoods have been able to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of many disadvantaged people, with an emphasis on helping “at-risk” kids. They have served as a point of connection for various mission teams looking for a place to serve Jesus through missions.
In May 2015, a new ministry center was opened in the village of Cotton Tree just outside the capital city of Belmopan. This ministry center serves as the base of operations for Dan & Toni as they look to minister in different parts of the country and Central America. This location has given Dan & Toni more opportunities to share the Gospel through teaching and preaching.
