Our annual Appalachian Christmas Project began in 2005. This project helps provide Christmas presents to many needy children in Eastern Kentucky through the support of churches and individuals.
Each November/December, our work ramps up with the collection and distribution of Christmas shoeboxes filled with a present. Typically, we deliver approximately 350-400 shoeboxes to different locations in Eastern Kentucky.
In 2024, we had three distribution points including Estill Medical Clinic/Irvine, KY (Estill County), Salyersville, KY, Christian Church (Magoffin County), and Save His Sheep/Whitesburg, KY (Letcher County).
Letcher County was one of the hardest hit areas by the floods during the summer of 2022. For the past year plus, Mission Journeys has been working with a local organization to assist residents who need help during their recovery from the flooding.
We cannot do this without the help of several churches that provide shoeboxes and gifts. The children are always delighted to receive the gifts. It's a great way to express their thanks and share Christmas joy with a family in real need.
