Director: Wayne King
In 2005, Teen Mission, USA, launched a new outreach ministry, Global Bible School. The initial focus of GBS was to have volunteers in the United States help conduct Bible study lessons with thousands of people from many countries. We printed several versions of Bible lessons that were then used to connect people around the globe to Jesus, teaching them how to become Christians. Leonard Stone served as the first coordinator for GBS and served in that role from 2005-2010.
GBS remained somewhat dormant until 2013. In 2013, the efforts of Dr. Wesley Stepp - Bible Institute for Christian Missions (BICM) and Wesley Bell - International Bible School (IBS) were merged under one umbrella to re-energize Global Bible School.
IBS operated a very similar model to the original GBS plan by offering Bible study correspondence to several students around the world. BICM brought college-level Bible classes to interested church leaders in other countries. Under the leadership of Dr. Stepp, BICM began in 1974, helping train a generation of ministers and educators who started over 155 new churches and served in countless others. At the time of the merger, BICM had students in class in Guyana, French Guiana, Trinidad, and the Philippines.
In February 2013, Wayne King made a call to the Mission Journeys office inquiring about the teaching and training mission trips being offered. It was then that Wayne was introduced to the concept of Global Bible School and the ministry’s vision for the future. Wayne made his first teaching trip with Dr. Stepp in July 2013, to French Guiana. He went with Dr. Stepp to the Philippines in 2014. In 2015, he made a solo teaching trip to French Guiana. Wayne was hooked!
Wayne retired from the Kentucky Department of Education in August 2019 and began an expanded role with Mission Journeys as Associate Director in charge of the Global Bible School (GBS). In October 2022, King was announced as the new Executive Director of Mission Journeys and a new direction for the ministry began to take form.
The Global Bible School outreach has now become a major priority for the ministry of Mission Journeys!
